Ben: What is the best financial advice you have been given?
When I was first married, I was working as a youth pastor. We made very little money and had high debt from some unpaid medical bills. I didn’t really have any spending money available but felt compelled to contribute a tithe, as many Christians do. I was completely wrecked with guilt and talked to a mentor of mine.
He told me I was not in a place to tithe or really to give money at all. If you can’t take care of your family, you can’t afford to give to people outside of your family. Make sure you're healthy financially and the healthier you are, the more you can give and help others around you.
